STARDATE0626.25 - DRONESHIP COLLECTION

Nathan Miers

INTRODUCING: the DRONESHIP Collection of gamer desk mats, inspired by the SpaceX drone ships: "A Shortfall of Gravitas", "Of Course I Still Love You", and "Just Read the Instructions", which were named after science fiction spacecraft from the "Culture" series by Iain M Banks.

This particular collection is for my fellow rocket nerds. This was a project that has been on my personal to-do list for awhile now (mostly bc I wanted some for myself!), and I just found these perfect gamer desk mats in 4 different sizes that finally made it a reality; a 7x8" mousepad ($15), a 12x18" pad ($20), a 12x22" pad ($30), and a mega mat that measures in at a whopping 16x32" ($40).

For those who are still curious and maybe NOT rocket nerds at all, here's a little more info on the drone ships, because...well, what the heck are they!? SpaceX's drone ships are a key part of the company's effort to make rocket launches more affordable by enabling the recovery and reuse of a rocket's first stage(s) or boosters. These autonomous, ocean-going barges are equipped with propulsion systems and landing platforms, allowing SpaceX to land Falcon 9 boosters at sea.

Here's a video of the first successful booster landing on a drone ship...

And if you like entertaining outcomes, here's a compilation of bad landings...

And finally, take me to the DRONESHIP collection!!

As always, thanks for the looks and your continued support!!
